To the House

CASA DA ARQUITECTURA is installed in Roberto Ivens Street House, nº582, in Matosinhos

The house belonged to the family of Architect Álvaro Siza Vieira and was acquired in 2007 by the Municipality of Matosinhos, with the purpose of receiving the CDAS – Documentation Centre Álvaro Siza. By protocol between the Câmara de Matosinhos and CASA DA ARQUITECTURA, CDAS is integrated in CASA DA ARQUITECTURA and, thus, began a mutual collaboration and sharing of facilities. The rehabilitation works, in charge of CASA DA ARQUITECTURA, began in January 2009 and ended on the 15th June. This is the restructuring of a house built in the mid-nineteenth century and remodelled in 1961 by architect Álvaro Siza at the request of his parents. It was intended that the restructuring of the house was, where possible, faithful to the 1961 project. Respecting the aesthetic intention of its author and always under his guidance, slight changes were made with the aim of making the space capable of receiving their new functions. It has spaces for the work team, a library, a showroom, a visitor’s reception, a small shop and a garden where several activities are planned. The official inauguration of CASA took place on 25 June 2009. Attendance and visits to CASA DA ARQUITECTURA at the following:
