Doctoral scholarships: 27 applications submitted
The collections of Paulo Mendes da Rocha, Eduardo Souto de Moura and Luis Ferreira Alves were the most targeted by the researchers, who are essentially divided into two nationalities: Portuguese and Brazilian.
Although the topics of study focus on more general areas such as public housing, for example, the proposals selected also deal with aspects of the collections of Jorge Gigante, Fernanda Seixas, Teresa Fonseca and Pedro Ramalho, which are in the care of the House Archives.
Nuno Sampaio, executive director of Casa da Arquitectura, is pleased with the results of this first competition, both ‘in terms of the number of applications received and the quality of the themes proposed’ and, he emphasises, ‘in terms of what these works represent in terms of valuing architectural collections and the production of knowledge that results from them’.
Knowledge that, he recalls, ‘will be favoured in the future by the institution's editorial publications’.

The 10 applications selected are ‘very interesting research projects to which Casa da Arquitectura will make a unique and unquestionable contribution’, says the president of the jury, architect Nuno Grande, for whom the future expectation is that ‘it will be possible to deepen and explore other dimensions of the vast collection that Casa da Arquitectura has’.
