Casa da Arquitectura – Portuguese Center of Architecture is located in Matosinhos and occupies the block limited by Av. Menéres, R. Mouzinho de Albuquerque, R. Sousa Aroso and R. D. João I.The constructions now recovered and adapted have integrated the previous factory installation built between 1897 and 1901 by Menéres & Companhia society, destinated to Real Companhia Vinícola. Resistent to the progressive industrial transformation and housing ocupation, its preservation and adaptation is owed to the high cultural and heritage value. It is an inspiration model and from english tradition, where existed the first steam cooperage in the region. The central patio is created as a Plaza Mayor, qualifying it and directioning it to collective uses. The building integrates the Urbanization Plan from Matosinhos Sul, from the author Álvaro Siza.
