CaixaForum+, a free online platform, arrives in Portugal with proposals from Casa da Arquitectura

Subscribers of CaixaForum+ will now have free access to more than 500 programmes, including series, documentaries, concerts and operas, on subjects such as art, cinema, music, theatre, literature, thought, history, architecture, design, life sciences and physical sciences.
For the launch in Portugal, there will be numerous proposals specifically designed for Portuguese audiences, as well as content resulting from collaboration with the country's main cultural institutions, including Casa da Arquitectura.

On the page dedicated to Casa da Arquitectura, subscribers to the platform can find 10 interviews with Brazilian personalities by journalists, critics and curators on various topics, conversations with various names in national and international architecture linked to Casa da Arquitectura projects, a long interview with Paulo Mendes da Rocha by Ana Sousa Dias, a conversation between Álvaro Siza and Guido Guidi, among many other pieces of content.

The platform is governed by the same principles with which the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation defines its cultural activity: rigour, accessibility, dissemination, uniqueness and universality of its content. The common denominator of the catalogue of content now available is quality, both for users looking for more specialised content and for those who are interested in different disciplines out of curiosity.

The catalogue is divided into nine themes: fine and visual arts, performing arts, music, literature, thought and history, cinema, architecture and design, life sciences and physical sciences. Users of the platform can find documentaries, series, concerts, operas, short films, conferences, interviews and more.

The length of the content varies from two minutes, in the case of some micro-documentaries, to ten hours, as is the case with series focused on conversations with great creators.

The platform arrives in Portugal with a fully Portuguese version - both on the website and in the apps for mobile phones and smart TVs - and the content is subtitled in the same language.

Subscribers will find three types of content on the platform: CaixaForum+ Originals, the platform's own exclusive productions; numerous proposals specifically designed for Portuguese audiences and launched for the first time with the launch of the platform; and the inclusion of a catalogue of productions (new and existing) in collaboration with the country's main cultural institutions.

With the launch of the platform in Portugal, content provided by some of the country's main cultural institutions, such as Casa da Arquitectura, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Fundação de Serralves, Casa da Música Porto and Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, will be integrated in the coming months. CaixaForum+ Portugal also collaborates with renowned festivals in the country in the field of documentary cinema, such as Doc Lisboa, Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival and other festivals such as FIMM - Marvão International Music Festival.

With all these collaborations, CaixaForum+ is pursuing a double objective: on the one hand, to become a unique aggregator of cultural content; on the other, to enable new projects to be co-produced thanks to the support of the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation.

CaixaForum+ will also include in its catalogue various non-fiction contents strongly linked to Portuguese culture, science and society.

Some data on CaixaForum+

Just two years after its launch, CaixaForum+ has already exceeded 250,000 subscribers, with an average of 12,000 new users per month. In total, the platform has subscribers in more than 80 countries. The majority of subscribers are between 46 and 60 years old, representing 68 per cent of the total; the gender breakdown shows a very balanced audience (53 per cent women and 47 per cent men).

Subscription is free. CaixaForum+ is a multi-device platform: its content is available for mobile devices and tablets via the app that can be downloaded from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Content can also be accessed via the caixaforumplus.org website and, on smart TVs, via the native apps or via AirPlay or Chromecast.

Main sponsor of Casa da Arquitectura, the ‘la Caixa’ Foundation began its deployment in Portugal in 2018, as a result of BPI joining the CaixaBank group. By 2024, it will have earmarked 50 million euros for social, research, educational, cultural and scientific projects.
