Casa da Arquitectura at the DDD - Festival Dias da Dança

Casa da Arquitectura repeats this year's participation in the Days of Dance Festival (DDD), which will take place 21 to 30 April in eight different spaces in the cities of Porto, Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia.

With the co-artistic direction of Cristina Planas Leitão and Drew Klein and under the theme "Glass + City", this year's edition "aims to be an encounter between creators, spaces (where the sun, wind and rain embrace us) and their communities - a triad in which we believe and that we want, with experimentation and the passage of time, to allow us to grow and strengthen in the territory of what, with so much respect and dedication, we call Art. The essence of Body + City, performance in public space, returns in the 2023 edition with a diversity of proposals/artists, who will inhabit spaces in the three cities, Porto, Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia, returning to the natural approach to people, in a conscious gesture of invitation to this experience of participation and city living."

The Casa da Arquitectura hosts the national premiere of Ritual of Life by choreographer and artist Bouziane Bouteldja / DANS6T on Saturday 22 April at 6pm. Admission is free.

Drawing from Gumboot, Pantsula, Gnawa and tradiio nal dances, Bouziane Bouteldja explores bodies in perpetual motion and ancient rituals while dancing and waiting for better days. Using natural elements and materials such as water, soil and sand, the French choreographer creates a piece that refers to the History of Sapiens, questioning the history of migrations and the great movements of exploration of the world. It creates a connection between the past and the present, exploring the motivations of these movements and interrogating our perception of the other.

Held annually since 2016, at the end of April, DDD - Dance Days Festival is an International Contemporary Dance Festival, organized by the Performing Arts Department of Ágora - Culture and Sport of Porto, E.M., S.A., in collaboration with the municipalities of Gaia and Matosinhos.

DDD's programme - shows, workshops, open classes, conversations, parties and much more - attests to the aesthetic and thematic diversity of contemporary dance, opening itself to an idea of expanded choreography and defending the artistic vision as a great contribution to today's society.

BIOGRAPHY

Bouziane Bouteldja was born in Tarbes (France). He is the youngest in a family of 9 children. He discovered hip hop dance in 1998 with Tayeb Benamara and trained under the tutelage of choreographers Kader Attou, Karim Amghar and Olé Khamchanla. In 2001, he founded DANS6T with a group of dancers, a non-profit dance organisation dedicated to teaching hip hop dance and social work in underprivileged neighbourhoods. Under Bouziane's direction, in 2007, DANS6T formed its own dance company.
Bouziane then committed herself to realising her own artistic visions, reflecting and questioning social problems. Over the years, her research has become increasingly focused: through her body, she seeks to bring her commitments and convictions to the stage.
