Digital Casa: a Window to Architecture

The bet on digital content during the confinement period was made under the hashtag #aCasaemcasa and registered a huge adhesion, reinforcing the role of digital and audio-visual record in bringing architecture to new audiences.
Despite being closed to the public, the Casa remained “open” through social networks and a package of new proposals aimed at giving visibility to the institution and the Exhibition “Souto de Moura - Memory, Projects, Works”.
Immediately after closing the doors, Casa provided a virtual visit to its facilities, allowing the public to keep in touch with the exhibition there.
Souto de Moura is, moreover, one of the architects targeted in the series of small films produced by the Casa on works by authors whose collection is in the care of the Casa Archive and which are on display at RTP, under a partnership with the public television.
The small films portray works by Eduardo Souto de Moura and Gonçalo Byrne, among others, from drawing to their physical materialization and are being shown in the broadcasts of RTP1, RTP 3 and RTP Internacional.
Still with the objective of making known the collection kept in the Casa Archive, a rubric was created entitled “Arquivo em Série” that makes known, on the Casa's social networks, details of works by different authors.
Casa's commitment to digital content was reflected in a substantial increase in followers and views on its social networks.
The Youtube page of Casa da Arquitectura, which currently hosts more than 170 videos corresponding to two years of activity, recorded the most significant increase in followers, 60% in three months. This boost is partly due to the debut of the new channel Studio Casa, launched in March and which offers its own exclusive content weekly. These are interviews with a group of ten Brazilian personalities - architects, artists and other guests who visited the Casa during the past year - made by journalists, architects, critics and curators at its facilities.
Studio Casa's videos are also available on the Platform Archdaily Brasil, Casa's partner. Considered the most visited architecture website in the world, with 13.6 million monthly visits, Archdaily provides Studio Casa's interviews almost simultaneously, making the Casa's contents accessible to an even wider audience.
In the last three months, the Casa's YouTube page recorded 12 110 views of its videos, more than half of which were from foreign users.
The growing interest in offering content from the Casa extended to all digital platforms: the social network Instagram rose 10% and Facebook registered a 4.52% increase in followers between March and June. Casa da Arquitectura's Twitter account rose 13.64%.
