Luis Ferreira Alves International Photography Competition | A Contemporary Look at Architecture honours the photographer's legacy

Applications for the Luis Ferreira Alves | A Contemporary Look at Architecture International Photography Competition are open until 25 April. This biannual competition aims to pay tribute to the legacy of the nationally and internationally recognised photographer of excellence, whose work has spanned the transition from analogue to digital and whose collection has been deposited at Casa da Arquitectura since November 2021.

The competition is promoted and organised by Porto City Council and the Cityscopio Cultural Association and has the strategic support of Casa da Arquitectura.

The competition is aimed at university students, researchers and professionals in the fields of architecture, photography and related disciplines, allowing individual or group applications. Participants are invited to submit an original photographic series comprising 5 to 7 images that cohesively portray a work or group of architectural works, accompanied by an explanatory text of up to 2,000 characters.

The winners will be announced in June 2025, with the awards ceremony and exhibition of the winning projects scheduled for September 2025. Prizes include:

- 1st place: 10,000 euros

- 2nd place: 4,000 euros

- 3rd place: 1,500 euros worth of photographic equipment

In addition, the winners will receive copies of ‘Luis Ferreira Alves in the Works of Eduardo Souto de Moura’, have their work presented at an exhibition and published in an exclusive catalogue.

The selected works will become part of the Luis Ferreira Alves Photography Prize collection, contributing to an ever-growing archive that celebrates architectural photography.
