Open House Porto 2019 was the most visited edition of all times

To the Executive Director of Casa da Arquitectura, Nuno Sampaio, the fifth Open House Porto edition revealed to be "a huge success, that allowed to show to a very extensive public a hide side and of difficult access of the cities that has got to do with the reserved intimacy of urban space, that stays on the inside part of the walls".
Despite the fact that almost half of the spaces of this year’s itinerary were private homes (44%), with low host capacity, the huge inflow verified shows that the “the programme made by the curators was very well thought and responded to people’s curiosity, showing some of the best architecture in the three cities”, he added.
The challenge suggested by the program’s profile was due to “the excellent organization that was behind this edition”, that mobilized 300 volunteers, 107 specialists, 189 commented visits and generated more than 760 hours of buildings opened to the public.
Casa da Arquitectura considers that the huge success of this initiative is a result of many factors: the quality of the programme, with buildings of an enormous architectural quality, and an exemplar organization, added to an immense generosity of the owners that opened their spaces, including the most reserved ones.

The five most visited places

The five most visited buildings in this edition were Leixões Cruise Terminal (8692), Serra do Pilar’s Monastery (2799), Altice Tower (2110), Casa da Arquitectura (1681) and Porto’s City Hall (1408).
As for the 31 private houses, Casa Fez, in Porto, was the most visited with 1013 people.
This year’s edition was the one with more open spaces to the public (70), increasing 8% than last year. The visits were 18% more than 2018.
These numbers reveal a bigger interest from the public to get to know the architecture in the cities involved.
Beside the visits, Open House Porto offers every year a free parallel programme of activities for a large public, in which activities for families and children stand out.
