Exhibition and Publication of the Luis Ferreira Alves Award 2025 Open in Porto
The newly released book is a curatorial edition, bringing together the awarded series alongside essays and critical reflections on architecture. Produced in partnership with scopio Editions and the Spanish publisher Turner, the publication will benefit from wide international distribution, aiming to reach both professionals and readers interested in visual arts and contemporary architectural culture.
More than a simple record, this edition is a space for reflection and debate, exploring the intersection of photography and architecture from a broad cultural perspective.
The ceremony will include the presence of the awardees — Maho (1st Prize, represented by a friend residing in Portugal), Cyril Weiner (2nd Prize), Sergio Belinchón (3rd Prize), and Amélia Lancaster (Special Mention) — as well as members of the international jury: architect Eduardo Souto de Moura and photographers Hélène Binet and Paulo Catrica. Representatives from partner and sponsoring institutions will also attend, including the Porto City Council, CIN, BPI with the support of Fundación “la Caixa,” and Canon.
The exhibition, open until 31 October, features the awarded projects accompanied by critical texts that provide artistic and cultural context. The choice of the Antiga Casa da Câmara, located in the historic centre of Porto, adds symbolic significance to the event, highlighting the strong connection between the legacy of Luis Ferreira Alves and contemporary Portuguese architecture.
Following the announcement of the winners on 28 June at Casa da Arquitectura in Matosinhos, this stage reinforces the public visibility of the award. The first edition saw significant participation — 1,495 entries from 99 countries — confirming its international relevance and setting a strong precedent for future editions.
Throughout 2025, the programme will include further presentations of the publication, both nationally and internationally, as well as guided visits and masterclasses during the exhibition period.
