Exhibition ''Infinite Span: 90 Years of Brazilian Architecture'' travels to São Paulo to show at SESC
Idealized by Casa da Arquitectura and curated by Fernando Serapião and Guilherme Wisnik, Infinite Span is the result of a two-years work process that Casa da Arquitectura did in Brazil, gathering an heritage with more than 200 donations that integrates Casa's permanent collection.
Infinite Span – 90 Years of Brazilian Architecture congregated 90 projects from authors that are fundamental to the comprehension of the Brazilian production. Half of them refer to the modern period and the others to the contemporary period. The exhibition integrates a period of nine decades of Brazilian architectural production, since the conclusion of the first of three modern houses from Gregori Warchavchik – the House in Rua Santa Cruz, concluded in 1928 – until the present.
Among the selected authors, there are a few that stand out, such as Lucio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer, Affonso Eduardo Reidy, MMM Roberto, Sergio Bernardes, Roberto Burle Marx, Vilanova Artigas, Lina Bo Bardi, Rino Levi, Severiano Mario Porto, João Filgueiras Lima (o Lelé) and Paulo Mendes da Rocha, among many others.
Most of the original drawings from these authors belong to private and public collections (universities, foundations and Brazilian institutions), with whom the curators, on behalf of Casa da Arquitectura, made agreements to put in Matosinhos a collection of authentic and authorized selected projects. Most of the collection is dedicated to the contemporary phase, that integrates the period from the 1980s until nowadays. This portion of the collection is constituted by creations of professionals from younger generations and in activity, such as Marcos Acayaba, Brasil Arquitetura, Angelo Bucci, Andrade Morettin and Carla Juaçaba, among others.
