‘Constructed Geographies’: Casa da Arquitectura launches Paulo Mendes da Rocha's catalogue at Sesc 24 de Maio in São Paulo
The event will feature institutional contributions from a representative of SESC (to be appointed) and Nuno Sampaio, Executive Director of Casa da Arquitectura. The highlight of the evening will be a conversation between Nuno Sampaio, Catherine Otondo, Marta Moreira, Vanessa Grossman and Martin Corullon, moderated by Francesco Perrotta-Bosch, on the work and legacy of Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The event will close with the sale of the book and an autograph session.
With 431 pages and available in Portuguese and English, the catalogue brings together critical essays and interpretative texts by more than 25 renowned authors who, in various ways, have engaged with the work of the architect — winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2006 — including Jean-Louis Cohen, Vanessa Grossman, Guy Nordenson, Ana Luiza Nobre, Ruth Verde Zein, Guilherme Wisnik, Angelo Bucci, Alexandre Delijaicov and Paulo Mendes da Rocha himself. The publication also includes a long interview by the curators with Portuguese architect Eduardo Souto de Moura (Pritzker Prize 2011).
The work offers an in-depth analysis of 12 emblematic projects, reprints two fundamental essays and highlights the architect's identity as a central figure in South American architecture — committed to the intersection between nature, culture and society.
Published by Casa da Arquitectura, with editorial curation by Jean-Louis Cohen and Vanessa Grossman, the catalogue is a central piece for the preservation and dissemination of Paulo Mendes da Rocha's collection.
The work is both a complement to the exhibition of the same name produced by Casa da Arquitectura and an editorial milestone in the study of modern and contemporary architecture in Brazil and worldwide.
Free admission, subject to room capacity.
