Open Call in Conflict - Venice Biennale 2021
The Portuguese Representation at the Venice Biennale is curated by the General Direction for the Arts and is curated by the collective depA architects , which also assumes the exhibition project.
With Casa da Arquitectura as a Communication Partner and the support of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale and Mira Forum, In Conflict launches until June 28th an open call for the selection of three debate proposals to integrate its official programme.
The three proposals chosen will be part of an international cycle of six debates, taking place in: Venice, at the Portugal Pavilion; Lisbon, at the headquarters of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale; and Porto, at Mira Forum. This cycle will run from August to October 2020, with two events in each of the three cities.
Thus, in each city a pair of guests chosen by the curators will organize one of the debates, and the other will result from one of the proposals chosen from this open call, producing a cycle consisting of six acts in total.
A second volume of the catalogue of the Official Portuguese Representation will also be published on this cycle of six debates, with contributions from the organizers of the six events, including who was selected in this call.
The aim is to broaden the reach of In Conflict, calling for proposals that promise to sit down at the table the agents of the territory transformation and the design of cities - people connected with activism, politics, journalism, research, architecture or visual arts, for example - at the local or international level, and in open and transdisciplinary dialogue.
We are looking for proposals that promote a plural discussion and without false consensus on some of the challenges posed by the need to live together, contributing to the response given by the Portuguese Representation to the challenge launched by the curator of the Venice Architecture Biennial 2020, Hashim Sarkis.
