Open House Porto with more than 17 000 visits

The eighth edition of Open House Porto, organised by Casa da Arquitectura, attracted more than 17,000 visits to the 52 spaces on the itinerary during 1 and 2 July, to the great satisfaction of the organisation and curators, this year in charge of Pedro Baía and Magda Seifert.

Dedicated to the theme "The Newest in Architecture" - inspired by the 1959 text by Nuno Portas, "The responsibility of a brand new generation in the modern movement in Portugal" - this edition offered the opportunity for a possible reading of the various brand new generations of architects who have been designing and building over time.

Nuno Sampaio, Executive Director of Casa da Arquitectura, is pleased with the public's support for the OHP, as well as with the organisation that the event involved, both in terms of curatorship and the more than 300 volunteers and 50 specialists involved.

"In this edition, the second no longer conditioned by the pandemic, we opted for a reduction in the number of spaces, with a desire to reveal the most private things that exist. It was the return of the public to the smallest and most intimate spaces", and the 23 houses/apartments reached an average of 230 visits during the weekend, Nuno Sampaio points out, recalling that in this 8th Open House Porto 26 of the places in the itinerary were absolute firsts in the event, which in 2025 completes 10 years of existence.

A total of 52 spaces from the four cities involved - Maia, Matosinhos, Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia - had their doors open to visitors. The route was also accompanied by the Kaleidoscope and Plus Programmes, with a set of activities open and aimed at all audiences, also free of charge, as well as the Design Experience and the Roadmap for Inclusion.

The most visited spaces in each of the four municipalities were the Cruise and Titan Terminal, in Matosinhos (2835 visits), the Altice Tower in Gaia (1713), the Porto City Hall (1326) and the Lidador Tower, in Maia (700). The most visited private space was the House on the Douro (771).

The parallel activities had about 1500 participants.

Open House Porto is, as a reminder, the only one in the world that encompasses four different municipalities.
