Jean-Guy Lecat's workshop at Casa da Arquitectura

Lecat was Peter Brook’s technical director and set designer in the Theatre Bouffes du Nord for 25 years.
15 places are opened to architecture students interested in participating. The participation costs 50 euros*. The registration can be directed to the mails: [email protected] and [email protected].

To do a theatrical performance means to try to “represent life, understand it in its greater intensity, come up with, in a way as realistic as poetic, the context in which life is happening. The performance’s purpose is to ensure that everyone feels better and in a bigger space. If we go to a theatre and then we feel worse, the performance did not have its only possible benefit, that is to make us feel better, comfortable, relieved, or, ideally, braver, with a new vitality.

Peter Brook, director

“At a time where traditional theatre work space is responding less and less and when it becomes difficult, at the same time, to work with new spaces, what is the answer to the directors that experiment alternative relations?
Today, every theatrical space seeks a new freedom, a new movement field, purified of artistic convections that are obstacles to the revelation itself. The Harmony of theatrical space is difficult; there is a duality between technology and the essential that needs to be observed. Nothing should be there without a reason.
The idea of this workshop is to find out that telling something is not only a question of words. Human beings, costumes, scenery, illumination, video, sound and walls have their part in a play. We should eliminate things that create distance; in the simplicity, every element has its importance and we can see with a greater intensity things that cannot be seen in another way.”

Jean-Guy Lecat

The workshop has the support of Casa da Arquitectura, Mendrisio Academy of Architecture and Atelier Carla Juaçaba’s organization.
