Exclusive preview of the documentary SIZA
Platform Gallery and Casa da Arquitectura have come together to celebrate Álvaro Siza's 90th birthday with the exclusive premiere of a film entitled SIZA on the 25 June, at 3 pm. Entrance to the event is free and on a first-come, first-served basis until the room is full. The film is subtitled in English.
The launch of the documentary SIZA on 25 June, Álvaro Siza's birthday, at Casa da Arquitectura is a tribute to the great man who has left an indelible mark on the world architecture scene. The filme is dedicated to the first Portuguese Pritzker, Honorary Member of the Casa da Arquitectura and one of the most renowned Portuguese architects in the world. The minister of Culture, Pedro Adão e Silva, will attend the event.
The documentary SIZA is a journey into the mind of one of the most important architects in the world. Begun two years ago, it involved 300 hours of filming involving around 40 interviewees.
The world architecture icon and 1992 Pritzker Prize winner, Álvaro Siza is a major character in the history of contemporary architecture, with projects that have changed the urban landscape of several cities around the world. Although his name and work are widely known, Álvaro Siza is a rather reserved and introspective person who prefers to keep his personal life out of the spotlight.
Directed by experienced producer and director Augusto Custodio, the documentary shows a more personal side of Álvaro Siza, such as his childhood, his relationship with his wife, his passion as a sculptor and his admiration for classical music. By exploring the influences on his life and career, SIZA offers a complete and captivating portrait of the architect and his legacy in modern architecture through a more intimate and unique look.
The documentary lasts one hour and features the participation of the architect's closest friends and people who were willing to reveal exclusive details about his personality and professional journey, respectively Álvaro Leite Siza, Carlos Castanheira, Henrique Siza Luis Pedro Martins, Nuno Ladeiro, Nuno Sampaio, Pedro Siza, Eduardo Souto de Moura and Tereza Siza.
The event ends with a concert by Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos at 6pm.
