Casa da Arquitectura celebrates 50 years of democracy with the launch of the catalogue for the exhibition ‘O que faz falta’
On Saturday 26th April, Casa da Arquitectura invites the public to take part in a day dedicated to contemporary Portuguese architecture, marking five decades of democracy in Portugal. The highlight will be the launch of the book ‘O que faz falta. 50 years of Portuguese architecture in democracy’, the catalogue with the same name as the exhibition, which brings together essays, reflections and images on the journey of Portuguese architecture since 1974.
The programme starts at 10:00 with free admission to the exhibition in the Exhibition Nave, which is open until 19:00.
At the same time, between 10am and 6pm, the Kaleidoscope Space is hosting the creative workshop ‘Constrói - O que faz falta?’, an activity open to the public of all ages. Here, participants are invited to imagine and build, using various materials, the spaces they consider essential for the city. The individual creations will form part of a collective installation that promises to bring the visitors' visions to life.
At 3pm, curators Jorge Figueira and Ana Neiva will lead a guided tour of the exhibition, providing an in-depth reading of the exhibition's content and the historical context that underpins it.
The catalogue launch, scheduled for 4.30pm at the Álvaro Siza Space, will be accompanied by a talk by essayist Marta Bogéa and a conversation with essayists David Leatherbarrow*, Francisco Seixas da Costa, José Maçãs de Carvalho, Marta Bogéa and Raquel Lima*, together with the exhibition's curators, Jorge Figueira and Ana Neiva.
The guided tour and the launch are free activities, subject to capacity.
The programme also includes two visits led by the respective architects to emblematic works of contemporary Portuguese architecture, both located in Lisbon: at 11am, a guided tour of the Thalia Theatre by architect Gonçalo Byrne; and at 4pm, a visit to the D. Dinis School led by architect Ricardo Bak Gordon. These visits outside the geographical area of Casa da Arquitectura reinforce the decentralised nature of the programme, expanding the experience beyond the exhibition building and allowing direct contact with outstanding examples of national architecture. Subject to registration (links bellow).
