Casa da Arquitetura and the DGT launch a national series of debates on cities and sustainability

In the year marking the 50th anniversary of local government in Portugal, the Casa da Arquitetura and the Directorate-General for Spatial Planning are organising the ‘Plataforma Cidade’ conference programme, based on the exhibition of the same name, which is due to open at the Casa da Arquitetura in November. The first session will take place on 21 May at 10.00 am at the Laboratório da Paisagem in Guimarães, headquarters of the Guimarães European Green Capital 2026 initiative, whose programme will be the central theme of this meeting.

The series of debates, which precedes and accompanies the exhibition, is organised in collaboration with the office of the Secretary of State for Local Administration and Spatial Planning and will take the public discussion on the relationships between ecology, infrastructure, work and housing to various Portuguese cities, reflecting on sustainability, mobility, the economy, territorial memory and contemporary ways of living and shaping the city.

The Casa da Arquitetura and the Directorate-General for Spatial Planning have signed a Specific Cooperation Agreement under a protocol established with the Portuguese State, through the government department for Territorial Cohesion, with the aim of developing joint initiatives to promote, disseminate, research and enhance national and international architecture as a cultural act of affirmation and identity. The agreement covers areas such as cultural heritage, spatial planning, urban policies, landscape and the environment.
