Casa da Arquitetura brings architecture, literature and contemporary thought to the Paraty International Literary Festival
The Casa da Arquitetura – Portuguese Centre for Architecture is making its debut at the Paraty International Literary Festival (FLIP) with its own programme which, between 23 and 26 July, brings together architecture, literature, the built environment, heritage and contemporary thought. Developed in partnership with the FLIP organisers, the initiative comprises 16 round-table discussions and debates, book presentations and meetings with some of the leading figures in culture, architecture and literature from Portugal and Brazil.

Held at Casa Flip + Casa da Arquitetura in Paraty, the programme stems from the two institutions’ shared desire to foster dialogue between disciplines and to deepen reflection on the challenges facing cities, memory, culture and sustainability, whilst strengthening the cultural ties between Portugal and Brazil.
Over the course of four days, the programme brings together writers such as Valter Hugo Mãe, Carla Madeira and Ignacio de Loyola Brandão, architects such as Solano Benítez and Inês Lobo, researchers, urban planners, policy-makers and specialists from various fields, in a series of debates addressing topics such as climate adaptation, urban design, heritage, territorial governance, sustainable tourism, the future of books and reading, and the role of culture in shaping contemporary societies.
The programme also includes the launch of four publications by Casa da Arquitetura. Of particular note is *Lucio Costa Arquivo*, a work that builds on the reflection initiated by the exhibition of the same name held at the Portuguese institution, bringing together essays by Portuguese and Brazilian authors on the legacy of the urban planner responsible for the masterplan of Brasília. A new edition of *Raízes do futuro: Lucio Costa e a tradição moderna* (Roots of the Future: Lucio Costa and the Modern Tradition), by Guilherme Wisnik, will also be presented, enriched with documents from Lucio Costa’s personal archive, now preserved by Casa da Arquitetura. The programme also includes the launches of *Construir o aberto. Arquitetura e verso* (Building the Open: Architecture and Verse) and *Brumadinho: espaços e tempo da memória* (Brumadinho: Spaces and Time of Memory).
In addition to the book presentations, the programme offers opportunities for dialogue between literature, architecture, the environment, gastronomy and photography, affirming Casa Flip + Casa da Arquitetura as a space for interdisciplinary exchange during the 24th edition of Flip.
With this presence in Paraty, Casa da Arquitetura reinforces its internationalisation strategy and consolidates its commitment to promoting architectural heritage and critical thinking through a programme that brings together research, creativity and cultural citizenship.
