Casa da Arquitetura is to incorporate Carlos Prata’s collection

The Casa da Arquitetura will be adding the collection of architect Carlos Prata (1950) to its Archive at a ceremony to be held on 28 May at 6.30 pm at the Espaço Álvaro Siza in Matosinhos.
The donation comprises documentation produced between 1976 and 2025, covering various collaborative projects developed throughout the architect’s career, and includes drawings, photographs and analogue textual documentation, models and digital content, constituting an important record of contemporary Portuguese architecture.

Born in Porto in 1950, Carlos Prata built a distinguished career in the fields of architecture, urban planning and urban regeneration. A graduate of the Porto School of Fine Arts, he also taught at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto for several decades.

He began his professional career working on the SAAL programme, participating between 1974 and 1976 in the urban regeneration of the Sé district in Porto’s historic centre. Throughout his career, he distinguished himself through projects involving housing, public facilities, schools and urban spaces, including his involvement in the regeneration of Porto’s city centre as part of Porto 2001 – European Capital of Culture.

His work has been widely published and recognised, and in 2022 he was awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit – Gold Class by Porto City Council.
