UIA Gold Medal 2026: A Celebration of Eduardo Souto de Moura
Organised jointly by the Portuguese Architects Association and Casa da Arquitetura, the celebration of the awarding of the 2026 UIA Gold Medal to architect Eduardo Souto de Moura will take place on 1 July 2026 in Barcelona, under the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic.
The event marks the highest distinction granted by the International Union of Architects (UIA), recognising an outstanding contribution to contemporary architecture and Eduardo Souto de Moura’s lasting impact on architectural culture worldwide.
The programme includes a public session at Disseny Hub Barcelona focused on contemporary architectural practice and the future of the discipline, featuring Eduardo Souto de Moura, Inês Lobo, Manuel Aires Mateus and Wilfried Wang. The celebration will continue at Moco Museum Barcelona with a commemorative reception and the opening of Ucronia, an installation produced by Casa da Arquitetura and dedicated to the architect’s work.
Bringing together institutional representatives, architects, academics and professionals from across the sector, the event highlights both the international recognition of Eduardo Souto de Moura and the significance of Portuguese architecture on the global stage.
