Conversation with António Adão da Fonseca and Dietmar Feichtinger

The link between architecture and engineering sets the tone for the conversation that will bring together engineer António Adão da Fonseca and architect Dietmar Feichtinger at Espaço Luis Ferreira Alves on 19 July at 6pm. Admission is free.

The talk is part of the Parallel Programme of the exhibition "Construir" by Dietmar Feichtinger, on show since May 25 at Espaço Luis Ferreira Alves, comprising 13 project models and a panoramic view of the projects built and under study.

The exhibition focuses on the work of the studio, founded in 1994, with offices in Paris and Vienna and a considerable track record in projects of all kinds, and will be on show until 8 September.

Adão da Fonseca attended the Military College (1957-64) and graduated in Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto in 1971. He did his PhD in Structural Engineering at the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London in 1980.

He was National President of the Civil Engineering College of the Order of Engineers for the 1995-1998 triennium. He was President of the European Council of Civil Engineers (ECCE) from 1998-2002 and a member of the Advisory Board of the Portuguese Institute of Architectural Heritage in 2004 and 2005.

He was a full professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and head of the Structures Section.

Specialising in bridges, he has led projects such as the Infante Dom Henrique Bridge in Porto, the Pedro e Inês Bridge in Coimbra and the Pavilions of Knowledge and the Ocenário in Lisbon, among others.
