25 and 26 May

New exhibitions, talks and free cinema on 25 and 26 May

Two new exhibitions, the premiere of a documentary, a workshop, a guided tour and two talks with top speakers: the weekend of 25 and 26 May is not to be missed at Casa da Arquitectura. Free entry to all activities.
The weekend of 25 and 26 May is a special one at Casa da Arquitectura. Two new exhibitions open - "City, House, Body - Maps and Language", which combines drawings by Ana Aragão with texts by Gonçalo M. Tavares in the Casa Gallery - and "Building" by the French firm Dietmar Feichtinger Architects in the Luis Ferreira Alves Space.

The film "Habitar" by Joaquín Mora premieres, a Canal180 production that portrays the ways of living in Porto, and there will be two talks with a number of first-rate guests. There are activities for children and a guided tour of the gallery's new exhibition. All with free admission.

Saturday's inaugural event takes place at Espaço Luis Ferreira Alves at 3pm, where the exhibition "Construir" by Dietmar Feichtinger Architects opens. The opening will be attended by the architect and founder, Dietmar Feichtinger. On display until 8 September 2024, the exhibition consists of 13 project models and a panoramic view of the projects that have been built and are under study. It focuses on the work of the studio, founded in 1994, with offices in Paris and Vienna and a considerable track record in projects of all kinds.

At 4pm in the Casa da Arquitectura Gallery, "City, House, Body - Maps and Language" opens, an exhibition that combines Ana Aragão's drawings with original texts by Gonçalo M. Tavares. On show until 29 September 2024, the exhibition is the result of a co-organisation and co-production by Casa da Arquitectura and Atelier Ana Aragão and aims to open up a route of readings between the drawings that interpret the city, by Ana Aragão, and the unpublished stories that the maps tell about the urban space, from the pen of Gonçalo M. Tavares.

At 5pm, a prestigious panel of speakers will debate the theme "House, City, Text": Ana Aragão and Gonçalo M. Tavares, Camilo Rebelo, Pedro Mexia and Mariana Sendas (moderation) in the Álvaro Siza Space.

The house continues to be the cross-cutting theme of Saturday's activities. At 7.30pm, the Álvaro Siza Space will premiere the documentary "Habitar", a Canal 180 production, followed by the talk "A Casa que Queremos Habitar" with architects Samuel Gonçalves and Pedro Ramalho, director Joaquín Mora and Fátima Vilar, a resident of the SAAL neighbourhood in Antas.

The documentary "Habitar" portrays current ways of living in Porto, highlighting the relationship between inhabitant and dwelling. Through nine main characters and their houses, we investigate the diversity of these homes. Each portrait reveals the individuality of the bond that the inhabitant creates with the space. The interconnection of the narratives brings together visions around fundamental themes for reflection on the role of housing and the expectations related to it.

For the younger ones, Espaço Caleidoscópio offers the "Constroi" workshop, open to children and families from 15:00 until 19:30.

On Sunday 26 May, Ana Aragão will give you the opportunity to take a closer look at the exhibition "City, House, Body" in the Casa Gallery at 11.00. Sign up for the free visit half an hour beforehand at the Casa's Ticket Office.
