Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel and Dr Mário Sores Urban Park

Porto City Council and Casa da Arquitectura have teamed up once again for the second edition of the Porto de Arquitetura initiative, which includes six architectural visits and an international conference. Admission is free upon prior registration. The next visit takes place on 10 May and includes the Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel and the Dr. Mário Soares Urban Park. REGISTRATIONS CLOSED.

The selection for this new programme of guided tours includes a group of buildings in the city that are intended to be as representative as possible of the recent transformations in Porto's urban fabric.

On 10 May, at 4pm, the Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel and the Dr. Mário Soares Urban Park will be featured, with a guided tour by the designers, VisioArq Arquitectos and DMEPU - Porto City Council's Municipal Department of Urban Studies and Projects, respectively.

Free entry, subject to capacity.

In the context of the so-called Lapa Operation, promoted by Porto City Council, the Porto Lapa Hotel presents itself as a new element in relation to the existing dynamics in this area of the city, enhanced by the creation of an urban park, open for public use.

Located to the west of Lapa Hill, the Dr. Mário Soares Urban Park (17,000m²) adds value to the public space and reinforces the renaturation of the city. The delimitation of the Ecological Structure made it possible to emphasise the wetland system as the ‘skeleton’ that supports the landscape. The re-naturalisation of watercourses, the application of nature-based solutions in public spaces, the promotion of green spaces articulated with the afforestation network, represent the guiding thread of an ecosystemic vision of the city.

The implementation of a hotel on the urban frontage of Calle de Cervantes allowed this former property, once part of the ‘Companhia Aurifícia’, to be transferred to the public domain.

The renaturalisation of the Vilar stream, eliminating the blocked section along Calle de Cervantes, and the network of paths themselves, designed the structure of the new riverside park. The meandering of the watercourse, the gargoyle over the fountain, the micro-weirs, the levada and the lake will allow the creation of various rhythms and environments, enhancing the wet system and the regeneration of the landscape.

The space connects different points in the city and seeks to recreate the rhythms of nature, reconciling vegetation and paths to create a balance between the dry and wet ecosystems.

Open House Porto 2025: Dez anos a abrir as portas da arquitetura

A 10ª edição do Open House Porto (OHP) celebra uma década de exploração arquitetónica, reforçando o seu papel como um dos mais relevantes eventos internacionais dedicados à arquitetura urbana. No fim de semana de 5 e 6 de julho de 2025, a Casa da Arquitectura volta a convidar o público a explorar gratuitamente mais de 70 espaços, incluindo alguns dos edifícios mais singulares das cidades de Maia, Matosinhos, Porto e Vila Nova de Gaia, proporcionando uma experiência única de imersão no património construído, habitualmente inacessível.

Atingir uma década de edições reafirma a relevância do OHP na aproximação entre a população e o espaço urbano. Sendo o único Open House mundial a abranger quatro cidades num mesmo evento territorial, esta edição reforça a sua identidade única ao unir diferentes geografias e contextos urbanos sob um mesmo olhar curatorial.

Nesta edição comemorativa, a seleção de espaços ficou a cargo da Casa da Arquitectura, que revisitou as nove edições anteriores para criar um roteiro diversificado. Assim, os visitantes terão a oportunidade de redescobrir os locais mais visitados e procurados pelo público, bem como espaços emblemáticos e inusitados. Mas as novidades também marcam presença: esta edição servirá como pretexto para descobrirmos algumas das mais interessantes obras concluídas nos últimos cinco anos nas quatro cidades envolvidas, enriquecendo ainda mais a experiência dos participantes.

O formato do Open House Porto mantém-se fiel ao seu conceito original, oferecendo um roteiro de visitação variado que percorre diferentes tipologias, estilos e cronologias arquitetónicas. As visitas serão acompanhadas por uma equipa de voluntários e especialistas, proporcionando um olhar aprofundado sobre cada espaço.

Para além das visitas, o programa será enriquecido pelos programas Caleidoscópio e Plus, iniciativas que propõem atividades abertas e acessíveis a todos os públicos, promovendo a interação e o debate em torno da arquitetura e da cidade.

Todas as visitas e atividades são de participação gratuita, reafirmando o compromisso do Open House Porto com a democratização do acesso à arquitetura e ao património urbano. Esta 10ª edição convida todos a celebrar a arquitetura e a cidade, através de um olhar renovado sobre os espaços que nos rodeiam.
