SHIFT 2025: Architecture in Action — Materials, Buildings, and Cities for a Regenerative Future
The Casa da Arquitectura – Portuguese Centre for Architecture, with the support of the Ministry of the Environment, is promoting the third edition of the SHIFT International Seminar – Architecture and Sustainability, which will take place between 25 and 27 September 2025, in Matosinhos.
Curated by architect and researcher José Pedro Sousa, this edition proposes an urgent and transformative reflection on the theme ‘The Positive Shift. Materials, Buildings and Cities for a Regenerative Future.’
The seminar will bring together internationally renowned architects and researchers in a collective effort to rethink the role of the built environment, proposing an active shift towards regeneration rather than mere sustainability. The event is divided into three main thematic areas: Materials, Buildings and Cities, addressing the necessary transformation at different scales of action.
In addition to the symposium sessions, the programme includes practical workshops, technical visits to companies and practical training activities, providing a multidisciplinary and immersive approach.
More than just a conference, SHIFT 2025 is a call to action: the built environment must evolve from a source of extraction to an agent of renewal. The challenge is immense, but so is the opportunity. The future of architecture is not just sustainable - it is regenerative. Are we ready to build a world that gives back more than it takes?
The challenge is ambitious, but the spirit of SHIFT is clear: positive change is possible - and it starts now.
More information about the programme and registration will soon be available on the Casa da Arquitectura website.
