Visit to Go Porto Headquarters and Porto Ambiente
Between February and July 2024, Porto City Council and Casa da Arquitectura have teamed up to develop the "Porto de Arquitetura" event, a cycle of free architectural visits open to the public upon prior registration, which will take place in a series of eight buildings in the city that are representative of the most recent contemporary architecture developed here.
Each visit will be accompanied by a talk with the architects and other personalities linked to the spaces, which will give an insider's view of the process of designing, building and restoring the works.

Topic: "Building optimisation solutions"
This building, located in Carvalhido, was rehabilitated and extended by Porto City Council to house the services/headquarters of the municipal companies GO Porto and Porto Ambiente (EMAP). Built at the end of the 19th century, it functioned until 1910 as the Municipal Slaughterhouse. Before it was remodelled, it housed the headquarters of the Municipal Directorate for Civil Protection, Environment and Urban Services and the Municipal Kennel.
The intervention was far-reaching, both in terms of organisation, structure and facilities, but the project went further and is now a benchmark in terms of environmental quality and energy efficiency, meeting the requirements of LEED certification, with a reduction in consumption of around 40% compared to reference buildings. The new facilities are an example of sustainability and have already been honoured in the sustainable architecture category of the "Green Awards". In addition to what is visible from the street, the building also has new green roofs that contribute to temperature control and acoustic comfort using natural elements and help improve the surrounding urban environment.
