Exhibition Souto Moura
Memory, Projects, Works

Under the curatorship of Francesco Dal Co and Nuno Graça Moura, the Souto de Moura exhibition offered a unique and rare solo show of the work for which he is considered to be one of the most renowned Portuguese architects.
The exhibition was the first to be drawn from the vast collection stored at Casa da Arquitectura in May 2019, comprising 604 models, around 8500 designs and all the textual and photographic documentation for the projects.
Incorporating around 40 projects, the show filled Casa da Arquitectura, occupying 950 square metres in the exhibition aisle and 150 square metres in the Casa’s Gallery. The contents of the exhibition, all original and, for the most part, never exhibited before, were faithfully presented as they are found in the archives at Casa da Arquitectura, without alteration or omission.
This exhibition and its catalogue (edited by Casa da Arquitectura and Yale University Press) have a highly documentary purpose, opening up the archive to the public and making it accessible to the widest possible analysis, interpretation and scrutiny. The catalogue will have written contributions from luminaries such as Álvaro Siza, Carlos Machado, Francesco Dal Co, Giovanni Leoni, Jorge Figueira, Nuno Graça Moura and Rafael Moneo, among others. A comprehensive programme of parallel activities, with the curatorship of Nuno Sampaio, executive director of Casa da Arquitectura, Francesco Dal Co and Nuno Graça Moura, will run alongside the exhibition. These included lectures and discussions with some of the most important Portuguese and international experts in Architecture and other disciplines, concerts and a set of guided tours where visitors can experience the work in all in its entirety.
