School Workshops

The Learning Service of Casa da Arquitectura is pleased to present the Schools Program for the 2024-2025 academic year, a program that explores architecture as an interdisciplinary learning tool with four lines of playful workshops, adapted to all levels of education.

In the workshops we create connections between architecture and art, geometry, nature, built heritage, landscape and territory, encouraging moments of reflection around environmental issues and exploring the spaces we inhabit in a critical and purposeful way. We intend for the program to be an ideal complement to the academic journey of the students and for Casa da Arquitectura to become an extension of the school space.

Architecture + Art
Through artistic practices, we invite participants to observe, experience and represent the built space. We encourage the exploration of materials, building models, illustrating stories, drawing in big formats, dancing, etc. with the aim of becoming aware of their bodies interacting with the built space.

Architecture + Nature
From microscopic to satellite observation, we challenge participants to discover nature as the greatest source of inspiration for solving structural, aesthetic and environmental challenges. In these activities, we discover the fascinating world of biomimetic architecture and creatively, participants design projects inspired by nature.

Architecture + Geometry
Geometry provides the development of spatial thinking and combines art, science and mathematics. Participants are encouraged to create architectural compositions working on the concepts of symmetry, proportion and balance. In these activities we will discover the influence of geometry on the aesthetics, functionality and structure of the buildings we inhabit.

Architecture + Heritage
To explore the architectural heritage in Matosinhos, we have prepared two guided tours and activities developed in the block of the Real Vinícola, where the Casa da Arquitectura is located, and also, in the Pinhais & Cia factory building, located in the heart of Matosinhos for almost a century, considered one of the most beautiful fish canning factories in the world.

This playful visit takes participants to explore the contents of the exhibitions on display at Casa da Arquitecura in a practical and creative way through observation, composition and drawing exercises.

Special Days' Workshops
Children's Day, Architecture Day, Sustainability Day or Water Day are some of the special dates we celebrate at Casa da Arquitectura. We invite schools to join us in celebrating these days with educational, interactive and fun activities related to architecture, design and sustainability, creating moments of sharing for all participants.
