Summer workshops 2025

Summer is just around the corner, and Casa da Arquitectura is ready to welcome young explorers aged 6 to 12 for a special summer programme running from 14th July to 5th September 2025! More info and registrations, here.

In our workshops, participants will explore the exciting world of architecture through interactive discovery. They’ll engage with our exhibitions – including scale models, drawings, photographs, films, and mechanical objects – while experimenting with hands-on creative activities. These dynamic sessions will spark their spatial awareness and encourage them to express ideas through diverse artistic mediums.

Our team of expert facilitators will guide children through creative challenges, inspiring them to explore the built environment and our relationship with it. Through hands-on activities, they’ll develop sustainable thinking, sharpen their problem-solving skills, and experience the power of teamwork.

The Summer Workshops at Casa da Arquitectura are structured into four types of workshops, spread across two types of weeks. While it’s possible to attend just one workshop, we recommend participating in both workshops each week, as the activities complement each other, offering a more complete and enriching experience.

On the final day of each week, participants and facilitators will put together a special exhibition, where they share their projects with families and visitors of Casa da Arquitectura. It’s a celebration of the creative process, where children present their discoveries and creations.

WEEK A

PLAYFUL MECHANISMS

Mornings | 10:00 - 12:30

Inspired by the exhibition "Virgínio Moutinho - In the Architect's Workshop" at Casa da Arquitectura's Gallery, this workshop series invites participants to explore fundamental mechanisms for creating entertaining kinetic toys. Using a wide variety of tools and materials, everyone will be encouraged to become true builders of their own imagination!

DRAWING CHALLENGES Afternoons | 14:30 - 17:00
These afternoon workshops will be filled with exploratory drawing exercises. We'll discover shapes, proportions and spatial relationships, sharpen our observation skills and practice freehand drawing as a tool for imagination and creative thinking. Participants will be challenged to draw in unexpected ways, at different scales, both individually and collaboratively. Together, we'll discover new ways of drawing!

WEEK B
MOVING COLLAGES Mornings | 10:00 - 12:30
In this workshop series, young creators will explore both 2D and 3D collage techniques. Using an exciting range of tools and materials, participants will craft dynamic compositions while learning fundamental design principles like form, balance and spatial order. Along the way, they'll discover sustainable creativity by transforming unexpected recycled materials into unique artworks!

PHOTOGRAPHY IN ACTION Afternoons | 14:30 - 17:00
Continuing our exploration of the built environment, this workshop series invites participants to discover new ways of observing their surroundings – now through photography. Using various techniques, they’ll experiment with the process of seeing, capturing, and reinterpreting images, reconstructing the spaces around them. We’ll challenge them to sharpen their photographic eye and capture unexpected compositions!
