A festival of workshops

This year, Casa da Arquitectura's 6th anniversary offers a veritable festival of workshops for children and families, designed by four invited architecture studios, plus an ongoing workshop organised by the Casa da Arquitectura Education Service. As part of a partnership with the Constantino Nery Municipal Theatre, there will be a set design workshop that will put "Heroes on Stage".
Free entry to all activities upon prior registration here.
Throughout 18 and 19 November, the Casa da Arquitectura Education Service will be running a workshop entitled "Emerging Cities" from 10am to 6pm, which, in the Kaleidoscope Space, proposes the collective construction of a city that emerges not only from the physical foundations, but from the ideas, perspectives and imaginations of all the participants. The proposal is more than just an urban design exercise, it's an invitation to reflect on the importance of everyone's participation in building the spaces we inhabit. Entry to this workshop is free and does not require prior registration.

On Saturday 18th, the Pablo Pita Architects Workshop by Pablo Rebelo and Pedro Pita, entitled "Totem", starts at 10am for children aged 6 to 12.
We'll be developing structures with cardboard boxes, in a playful-pedagogical experience that promotes exercises in expression and spatiality. Using adhesive tapes, we will promote the manual development of geometric patterns, exploring concepts of communication and characterisation. The assemblage of boxes focuses on themes such as understanding the relationship between spaces and volumes through their manipulation. The creation of a collective construction representing a shared execution is promoted.

In the afternoon, from 3pm, the workshop "Let's Build Cities" by Atelier Murmuro, led by Rita Breda and João Caldas, opens its doors to participants aged 6 to 12.
This workshop is an invitation to explore and create cities full of stories and magic. Through play, children gain an understanding of the relationships between space, volume and functions in the city, as well as different everyday programmes, such as home, school, the shop, the park, among others. They do this through imagination and emotion. Come and unleash the architecture inside you!"

On Sunday 19th, at 10am, it's the turn of Diogo Aguiar Studio's "Lines that Draw Spaces" workshop, aimed at young people aged 10 to 16.
Throughout this workshop, each participant will build, with their own hands, various lines that will cross the Casa da Arquitectura's Central Pavilion, using reused blue elastic bands of various lengths, as well as countless fixing points from the surrounding space itself.
At the end of the workshop, the collective work of the various participants will give rise to a common installation that appropriates the place to design infinite architectures.

An hour later, at 11am, Patrícia Pescada opens the "Heroes on Scene" Scenography Workshop, aimed at children aged between 6 and 12, which is the result of a partnership between the Constatino Nery Municipal Theatre and Casa da Arquitectura. The workshop will take place in the Carpentry Centre.
The portal is ours, the choice of time and scene is yours!
Your heroes and pocket figures have accidentally fallen through a black hole in the shape of a time portal and travelled back hundreds of years. They're now in a Greek amphitheatre, Shakespeare's Globe theatre, interrupting a Beckett rehearsal, or just hanging from the curtains of a Renaissance theatre.
Choose your characters at home, browse the minifigures, piny pons, Lol, the smaller action figures and their props.
The portal doesn't let big things through... you have to measure what can go through! Use a ruler or ask an adult to help you make sure your characters are no longer than 10 centimetres.
Take them to the House of Architecture and choose the time you want them to be there. Imagine and create that setting, the SCENE!

At 3pm, the "Casas’s New Places" workshop, organised by Atelier Masslab, starts, aimed at children and young people aged 12 to 18, equipped with a camera or mobile phone.
Every place is a different place for each of us. This activity explores the spaces of the Casa da Arquitetura through photography, cut-outs and collage. Through an exercise that links words with gestures and photography, we invite young people to imagine new places. At the end of the activity, share your new places with the mentors to exhibit the result in the House.

The multiple workshops have one thing in common: an impressive structure that Catari is bringing to the Central Pavilion and that will delight everyone, kids and adults alike, who come to celebrate with us. Don't miss out!
