Guilherme Wisnik talks about Paulo Mendes da Rocha in the exhibition space
The architect, lecturer and author Guilherme Wisnik will be giving a talk on 16 December at 3pm at the "Built Geographies: Paulo Mendes da Rocha", a lecture on the theme "Paulo Mendes da Rocha: the politics of discourse". Admission is free, subject to capacity.
A great friend of Paulo Mendes da Rocha, the co-curator of the exhibition "Infinito Vão - 90 Anos de Arquitetura Brasileira", which was on show at Casa da Arquitectura until September 2019, will create a bisector between the work and the person of the Brazilian Pritzker, linking the two exhibitions on show: in the exhibition nave, the exhibition relating to his 70 years of work; and in the Casa Gallery, an approach to the person and the humanist.
Guilherme Wisnik (1972) is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo, where he is Vice-Director (2023-2026).
He is the author of books such as Lucio Costa (Cosac Naify, 2001), Estado crítico: à deriva nas cidades (Publifolha, 2009), Espaço em obra: cidade, arte, arquitetura (Edições Sesc SP, 2018), Dentro do nevoeiro: arte, arquitetura e tecnologia contemporâneas (Ubu, 2018) and Lanç mundos no mundo: Caetano Veloso e o Brasil (Fósforo, 2022).
He received the "Destaque 2018" award from the Brazilian Association of Art Critics (ABCA) in 2019. He has published essays in various national and international books and magazines, such as Cahiers d'Art, Artforum, Architectural Design, Architectural Review, Domus, Arquitectura Viva, AV Monografías, 2G, Rassegna, Arch +, Baumeister, JA - Jornal Arquitectos, Urban China, Ars, Novos Estudos Cebrap, Plot and Monolito.
He has curated exhibitions such as the Margem public art project (Itaú Cultural, 2008-10), Ocupação Cildo Meireles: rio oir (Itaú Cultural, 2011), Paulo Mendes da Rocha: a natureza como projeto (Museu Vale, 2012), São Paulo: três ensaios visuais (Instituto Moreira Salles, 2017), Ocupação Paulo Mendes da Rocha (Itaú Cultural, 2018), Conversas na praça: Jorge Wilheim's urbanism (Sesc Consolação, 2019), Infinito vão: 90 years of Brazilian architecture (Casa da Arquitectura de Portugal, 2018), 22 em campo: football and modernism in Brazil (Museu do Futebol, 2022) and Paisagem construído: São Paulo and Burle Marx (Fiesp Gallery, 2022). He was the General Curator of the 10th São Paulo Architecture Biennale (Institute of Architects of Brazil, 2013), and of the Brazilian Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai (2021).
