With the aim of reaching different school communities across the country, the Learning Service team of the Casa da Arquitectura offers engaging online workshops, Through activities of architectural exploration to develope critical reflection on the spaces we inhabit.

Online Workshop for 1st and 2nd cycle of basic education (from yera 1 to year 6)

ANIMAL ARCHITECTURE

This workshop offers participants the opportunity to explore the incredible structures created by animals and challenges them to develop an architectural project using adaptations and natural materials, highlighting the importance of creating more sustainable and effective solutions in human design.

Pedagogical contents:

Scale and measurement, geometry, pattern, drawing, texture, functions of color and texture, symmetry, bioinspiration, biomimesis

Online Workshop for 3rd cycle of basic education and secondary education (from year 7 to year 12)

MICROSCOPIC WORLDS

This workshop provides a unique experience, connecting fractal patterns in nature with their application in architecture and urbanism. We will observe microscopic worlds and discover relationships with satellite worlds, and then apply these discoveries to the construction of architectural structures inspired by nature.

Pedagogical contents:

Nature, geometry, scale, shape, order, composition, structure.

Methodology:

Sessions last 1h30 and include three key moments:

EXPLORE: In the first part, the contents are introduced through a presentation that motivate the student´s participation.

CREATE: In the second part, the monitor will challenge is presented and students begin creating their proposals with the monitoring of the monitor virtually and the support of the teacher who is following the workshop in person

SHARE: In the last part of the session, students will have the opportunity to present their work and share with their colleagues the ideas developed in the projects built.

What happens in each session?

The Educational Service monitor will be at Casa da Arquitectura and will lead the workshop live.
Several classes can participate simultaneously.
We will provide support sheets for the development of the activity and ask that a printout of them be made available to students.
We ask the teacher for support to organize the work groups and manage the distribution of the materials necessary to carry out the activity.
Before the start of the session, tests will be carried out with the teacher in charge of the activity, to ensure the good technical functioning of the transmission.
At the beginning of the session, the monitor will present Casa da Arquitectura and the content of the session. Next, it will guide students in developing the proposed activity and finally facilitate the moment of sharing and presenting projects.

What do you need to access the online workshop?

Sessions are held via videoconference using Microsoft Teams. We will send all the video conference details after booking confirmation along with the video conference access link.
You will need a computer capable of video conferencing, with a webcam and microphone connected or integrated into the computer. A projector and speakers connected to the computer will also be needed so that participants can see, hear and interact with the monitor that guides the activity.
The sessions are held at Casa da Arquitectura, in a room reserved exclusively for this purpose where only the responsible monitor will be present.
At least one teacher must remain present during the workshop in the classroom. If this does not happen, the monitor will have to end the session.
Visual or audio recording, screen capture or recording, or sharing of private information without due authorization in a documented format is not permitted.
If any students are participating from home rather than the school classroom, participants will be kept in a waiting room prior to the event and teachers will be asked to enter the meeting first to confirm the names of students who will be participating. in the session.
